Standards Adoption Campaign

Did you know that Alaska's Library / Information Literacy standards were adopted in 1999!?
AkASL is asking the State Board of Education to adopt the 2017 National School Library Standards.
We need your help!
Please consider helping in one or more of the following ways:
  • Give public comment at the December 6th State Board of Education meeting. You can call in at 1-844-586- 9085 if you are outside of Juneau or 586-9085 if you are in Juneau. The meeting starts at 9:00am and public comment is taken at about 9:10am.
  • Send a letter to the Commissioner or Education and the State Board of education asking them to update the Library / Information Literacy Standards and adopt the National School Library Standards. You can send your letters to Melissa McCormick, Executive Secretary to the Board of Education.
  • Ask your local school board, parent-teacher association, educators' union, or education professional association to adopt and sign a resolution supporting the adoption of the National School Library Standards in Alaska.
Need Guidance on What to Say?
  • Read the AASL Standards Framework for Learners to find out what the National School Library Standards are all about.
